Unable to Connect to the Internet

There are a couple of reasons why your Internet connection may have suddenly stopped working.

First, make sure you are still all plugged in with the connections in the right ports at the rear of the pc or laptop and into the phone socket, router or modem. It is easier than you'd think to either forget to plug things in, or plug them in the wrong places if the pc has recently been moved!!

Check under the browser program tools, options menu that 'Always dial my default connection' is checked (if you aren't on a network).

If you've recently had a storm or power cut the phone line may have been damaged due to a power surge. So ring your line provider to do a line test.

If the line test is all clear, it may be your modem (ADSL router or dial up) that may have been damaged or decided to reset itself. If no lights are on check it is plugged in. If only one of the many lights are on: turn it off and on again (whilst pc is turned off) to see if this makes a difference. If still no joy you could try to borrow one temporarily to see if this rectifies the problem - if using an ADSL modem remember to load the software first before plugging it in!
