System Restore
The System Restore function in Microsoft Windows XP allows you to take a snapshot of the settings and system files on your pc. This means that if you make a change in the future that affects the running of the computer you can go back to the system restore point and put things back to how they were.
It is a good practice to set system restore points before you undertake an upgrade of your PC or download any new software. Then if it all goes pear-shaped you can undo the changes you made and start the process again.
A system restore will only take the system files back to how they were, no personal files you have created will be lost or saved in the process.
To set a System Restore point go to Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools.
