Can't Download Operating System Updates

Not being able to download operating sytem (Microsoft Windows XP or Vista) updates is a fairly straightforward one to diagnose. Essentially, you either have an unregistered, illegal copy of the operating system, or you have a virus that is preventing updates and possible removal tools from being downloaded.

There are a number of websites dedicated to the identification and removal of viruses, and plenty of suppliers of decent anti-virus software, so this should be your first port of call.

If you have an illegal copy of XP or Vista you will need to either purchase a genuine copy, or if you bought from a shop report the claim to Microsoft to take action.
